Publications

The Group publishes a Report every three years, covering in detail the observations and study data over the period, and including papers published by Group members. In addition, we have published a book, The Birds of Rye Meads, full of fascinating information charting the development of the birdlife of Rye Meads over the past 40 years. Finally, we issue a bi-monthly Bulletin, containing the latest news of our activities.

The Birds of Rye Meads

Birds of Rye Meads cover

This book is a goldmine of information showing how the birdlife of Rye Meads has changed over the past 40 years, using data collected and analysed by the Group. It includes full species accounts, presenting the results from a variety of data collection techniques, including Common Bird Census style surveys, ringing data, specific studies and winter wildfowl counts, and will be of interest to the casual birdwatcher and the keen ornithologist alike.

It can be purchased at the RSPB Visitor Centre at Rye Meads for £5, or direct from the Group for £5 plus £4.50 postage and packing. To obtain from the Group, please send a cheque for £9.50, payable to Rye Meads Ringing Group, to the address on our Contacts page.

Reports

Every three years, the Group publishes a Report covering its activities in full. Sections include a full species list with descriptions of every species recorded in the period, details of birds ringed and of recoveries and controls, results of long term studies for 'Constant Effort Ringing' and nest recording, and papers based on Group data.

The most recent report is the 16th Report, covering 2001 to 2003. The 17th Report is in preparation, and is expected to be published during 2010.

All fully paid up Friends of Rye Meads Ringing Group will receive the latest Report upon publication, and can request details or papers from any available past Report. To become a Friend of the Rye Meads Ringing Group, see details on our "Help to support us" page.
